If you’ve been vaping for a while, you may have noticed a decline in the flavour of your vape. First off, don’t be alarmed, this is totally normal and is just a natural part of vaping. That being said, a burnt or unpleasant flavour can indicate the overall health of your coil and can suggest it’s time to replace it.
Before you go ahead and replace your coil, consider the power you’re running through your coil (this only applies if you’re using a variable wattage mod). A burnt taste is often the result of a dry wick, and a higher power can dry your wick out faster without giving it time to suck in more e-liquid. When setting the power on your mod, consider the prescribed wattage range that will be printed on the coil or included on the coil box.
If turning the power down does not solve the problem, or if that is not an option, you should replace the coil. When you replace the coil, be sure to prime it properly to ensure you do not get a dry hit on your first few inhales.
It should be noted, certain e-liquids will cause coils to “burn” out faster, especially those that are particularly sweet. You will also need to consider the PG/VG ratios of your e-liquid. Pod systems and other restrictive tanks do not work well with high VG e-liquids, which can lead to burning, leaking, and spitback.
